Men’s Sobriety Retreat #48 – May 1-3, 2026

“Our mission is to foster the alcoholic man’s commitment to sobriety by providing workshops to teach and reinforce the founding steps, traditions, and principles of Alcoholics Anonymous in an atmosphere of unity and support.”

THE RETREAT: This weekend workshop of recovery and sharing for men will change your life. No women, no children, and no pets – just men who are serious about their recovery.

This weekend is a lifesaver for newcomers, who will be immersed in the Steps and Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. The old-timer’s recovery will be revitalized, enhanced and the workshop is the perfect time and place to complete that step-work you have been putting off. Be there to learn more about what works for you in recovery. Sponsors, bring your sponsees and use this great opportunity to do step work.

HOW IT STARTED: In 1982 the late Dock Crandell of Roswell, Georgia started the first Atlanta Men’s Workshop. A member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Kip Collins spoke at one of those workshops and brought back word of the miracle of the great weekend. Kip got a group of men together to host a similar workshop in Southern California. With the blessings of sobriety, the support of the Atlanta Men’s Workshop, the support of our workshop speakers, and the service of many volunteers, this weekend has become a reality. This is “passing it on” in action. We have been hosting the weekend twice a year, in May and October, since May of 2001.

LOCATION: Buckhorn Camp, Idyllwild, CA 92549 (click here for directions)
The location for the Back-to-Basics Workshop is beautiful Buckhorn Camp, located just 4 miles north of ldyllwild, CA, on Highway 243. Nestled in the San Jacinto Mountains at an elevation of 6,000 feet, Buckhorn Camp’s beautiful conference center provides an atmosphere of serenity, spiritual renewal and peace. Quality meals will be served in the conference center with the exception of the fantastic Saturday evening Barbeque dinner.

SPEAKERS:
We are blessed with a panel of speakers a national convention would be fortunate to have.
Friday: JIM W.
Saturday: CHARLES K.
Sunday: JIMMY S.

THE SCHEDULE: Arrive at 3:00PM on Friday, get checked in, unpacked, refreshed, then enjoy dinner. Following dinner, let’s experience a powerful speaker meeting, stay up late, and attend the Sobriety & Finances or Sexual Conduct in Sobriety workshops. Finally, get a good night’s sleep.
After a hearty breakfast on Saturday morning, we will have the “Magic & Power of the 12 Steps”. Our three speakers, with various lengths of sobriety, speak about how the 12 steps have changed their lives. After which there’s a break for lunch, then attend the 12 steps workshops in the afternoon. Enjoy a relaxing Bar-B-Que dinner with your new friends and after dinner, experience another speaker meeting once more for discussion or attend a topic meeting. Come Sunday as it welcomes you to another breakfast and our closing, spiritual speaker meeting. This includes a rowdy sobriety countdown and a communal closing that will leave you both fulfilled and strengthened. After that we ask all attendees to help us clean the campground in the AA Spirit, together. After our time together, please drive home safely, and we will be eagerly waiting for you next time.
